THE STANIFESTO
Stanley J. Kalisch, III

"Let me translate what you said, since you so easily misinterpret what I say in the first place.

Just because someone walks up to me, or even twenty people walk up to me, saying, "We don't like the UDP you're implementing," doesn't mean I should hold up on a UDP. I'm only going consider holding up on a UDP unless a moderate number of news admins. in news.admin.net-abuse.* or respectable despammers say to me, "Hey, Stan, you're making a mistake, and you need to stop." What you have to understand is that I'm accountable to the Usenet community via the news admins. that run it, the people who give the authority to cancel. If they don't like what I'm doing, they have the power to get me to stop, should I be fool enough to try to continue when I know they already don't like what I'm doing. After I determined the consensus was behind using the UDP in AFKMN after months of various kinds of discussion, I used it. Then the protests rolled in. A bunch of people who liked to cascade saying I was cancelling posts simply because I didn't like them. Whatever. A bunch of people saying I was a netcop. Some other people I had never heard of saying the cancels weren't appropriate. A couple people I *did* know, and who *were* admins. or despammers, saying they didn't understand, and because they didn't understand, they were a little bit uneasy. I answered these posts. I checked for more feedback, just to gauge that what I was doing was still supported by consensus, and to make sure yet again I hadn't made a mistake. From news admins. or despammers or people they tended to agree with, I didn't see any more questions or concerns raised. All I saw was a bunch of cascaders and people from Flameland complaining in n.a.n-a.u . Which was fine in itself--that's the place to take me to task. But they didn't get any supportive feedback from relevant parties.

Nine, practically ten months later, we're redredging this issue. And from what I've seen, none of the relevant parties are still interested. This is why I said the best course of action for everyone who is still upset with the UDPs I implemented is to watch what I do. Watch me like a hawk. If you think something I'm doing is a bad idea and not supported by news admins., take me to task on it in n.a.n-a.u . When I propose something, and you don't like it, comment on it. Say you think if implemented, the idea would be good/bad/rogue/not rogue/whatever, if you want to say something. Try and convince others, particularly admins. here, that you're right. There's nothing more I can say to help you at this point.

Right now, this "There was consensus", "Was not", "Was too" business isn't getting us anywhere. There are paltry examples to facilitate the discussion, and, consequently, this thread is serving in majority to be a waste of bandwidth and time. Like I said, you're better served to watch what I do, and, when I do it, address it.

This really probably is the last I'm going to participate in this discussion, unless someone says something terribly and glaringly unique I think should be addressed. Unless the admins. here in nanau have some things they want me to address in this discussion, I really don't see much potential fruit in carrying on like this.

Because of the nature of this discussion, such a thread would probably best take place now in news.admin.net-abuse.policy."
