Yep, alt.gothic, rec.music.tori-amos, and that old standby rec.pets.cats are
the objects of alt.syntax.tactical's latest "action."  We could *definitely*
use some help from those more experienced at tracking down forged addresses.

rmta hasn't been the object of the listserv attack yet, but ast and the "meow
meow" folks are doing their damndest to fill our ng with irrelevant crosspost
and flamebait.

I believe part of the problem originated on boulder.general - someone asked a
question about Tori Amos, I personally crossposted it to rmta since it was
relevant there, and immediately afterward, the thread was crossposted to
alt.flame, alt.fan.karl-malden.nose, and other "joke groups."  alt.syntax
tactical has now started to appear in threads which are being crossposted to
us from alt.gothic, alt.homosexual, rec.pets.cats, alt.smoking, and others.

I will include two examples at the bottom of this post so that experienced
forgery-trackers have something to work on.  We are devoting ourselves to
ridding rmta of this attack, but most of us have limited experience with
tracking forged addresses.  The "wrecking crew" is now forging posts in the
names of regulars on rmta, adding original content such as "satan loves you"
or just re-posting our posts all over Usenet forged to look as if they come
from us.  *Any* assistance would be greatly appreciated - this is driving
everyone crazy.  Please cc: replies in e-mail.

Here's the two examples I saved.  The first was dragged from alt.gothic to
all the newsgroups listed:

Spare me, you nattering twit. Here you are a practitioner of a lifestyle
(Gothicism), which dictates that you wear dark clothes and listen to very
depressing music while taking drugs, that make you even more depressed with
your miserable life than you already are, and you are complaining about
people who have diabetes, or otherwise are ill?
