Fiat Lux

by Ed Deak

When the Cold War allegedly ended with the breakup of the Soviet Union we thought that we'd be getting rid of the incessant, H-bomb laden B52, USAF "fail safe" bombers from over our heads. Well, our hopes were in vain as, if anything, we have more of them flying over our house than ever before. At almost any time we look up the sky we can see the condensation trails, or hear the noise of these 40 year old planes flying either North or South, ready for their insane retiliatory missions against the Russians in case they'd attack.

For all these years they have been using Williams Lake as a navigation reference point, making a slight turn to the right when they fly North and a left turn when going South.

There was a lot of protesting a few years ago about the US Navy's nuclear armed ships using Nanoose Bay for torpedo firings, yet here we are with these heaps of rickety junk, each of them carrying enough H-bombs to wipe out half of BC in case one crashed, and nobody seems to care. Why are they permitted to pollute our sky? Why is this irresponsible waste of resources and endangering of lives continuing, seemingly forever?

The only answer I can think of is that the US government is desperately trying to show to the world that they are the strongest dog and if anybody dares to stand up against them, they'll get bombed to smithereens. This includes the refusal by any society to welcome their multinational corporations with open arms to search and exploit and to feed with resources and flesh the insatiable money creating machine of American banks.

This was the main reason for the bombing of Serbia last year. The propaganda used was that they were committing genocide and mass murder against the Albanian population of Kosovo. The problem is that after over a year of NATO occupation no evidence of any of this has been found. There have been atrocities allright, mostly in retaliation of KLA attacks on the Yugoslav army, but they were well balanced by atrocities committed by the Albanians against the Serbs. These things always happen when brainwashed and especially religion soaked yahoos are given guns and power of life and death over others. But such acts are not genocide.

US President Bill Clinton was quite open about the reasons for the bombing: The forcing of this so called "market economy" on Yougoslavia, where many of the industries were still state properties and Western corporations wanted to get hold of them. So, at first they were bombed, then not permitted to be repaired through sanctions and now with the new regime the multinationals will move in, buy them up for a pittance, fire the workers and strip everything of value to fill the profit machines. Meanwhile the country will be indebted to the West forever.

This is the same program of planned expropriation that was used in all former communist countries, leaving them in worse shape that under the worst excesses of state capitalist madness. With the exception of the Yugoslavs, Eastern Europe has been robbed blind by the state capitalist Soviets for forty-five years under the fraudulent propaganda of the " People's Democratic Workers' Paradise", and what was left has been stolen from them by the Western mafia of multinational capitalists under the fraudulent scheme of "globalized democratic wealth creation." The only thing either have created was destitution, environmental destruction, pollution and overall misery.

The only question remains to be answered is which capitalism is the bigger fraud? The Soviet, or the US styles eagerly pursued by their bought and paid for quislings in our satellite countries? In both cases the demands of their self appointed ruling classes have been and are enforced by the military, like the daily B52 flights over our house. The only difference is that while the Soviets had to occupy colonial lands by ground troops, the modern way is with smart bombs, economic embargoes that kill little children in worse ways than bombs, and with wholly owned politicians.

The ground troops are out of fashion, their role now taken over by the corporate media. It would take a lot of infantry bayonets to replace BCTV's nightly propaganda preachings against "BC's health crisis" and Fraser Institute inspired economic theories of the brave new world of the elimination of government in the interest of the deregulated privatization of everything.

Well, the privatization part is a kind of loose interpretation, as what they really mean are American service providers expropriating and collectivizing our resources, health and school systems, while the B 52s are winging their ways above us to make certain that we keep on smiling.
