Fiat Lux

Perhaps the biggest problem facing human survival today is not war, but the miseducation of economics students in our universities. What most of the professors and textbooks are teaching is not economics, but ideological propaganda, very similar to the level of what was taught in the former Soviet satellites.

In the Soviet world the students were brainwashed that the distorted tenets of Marxism, with all powers concentrated in the hands of the a appointed ruling class will bring on the Workers' Paradise. In the capitalist world we are subjected to the same ideas, based on the distorted words of Adam Smith. Again the demand to put our lives into the hands of corporate power, so they can go on and create wealth and prosperity through globalized economic competition.

Yet, since the beginning of history the promises of ruling classes have always been wealth and power but what they always delivered was destruction and misery. While both communism and capitalism have been and are misusing the word "democracy", the only way either of these sick theories can survive is under constantly tightening dictatorships to feed the tip of the ruling pyramids.

Globalization of the markets has nothing to do with the alleged "free exchange of goods", but the widening of the base of this pyramid scam of total mental and physical control of humanity.

It makes little difference whether forced collectivization takes place under the threat of communist whips and bayonets, or under the blackmail of fiduciary capital. It makes no difference whether it is some secret police that comes in the middle of the night and throws people out of their homes and robs the futures of their children, or they are thrown out on the orders of a phony market place to divert their earnings into the pockets of the artificial people of corporate shares. I have seen and lived through both and have fought communism with all the weapons I could find for 45 years. I don't want to see my grandchildren having to jump on the orders of some company directors in Tokyo, or Berlin, or New York any more than when I was ordered to jump for Hitler and Stalin.

Now comes the double standards and doublespeak to justify the brutality of these neo-colonialists. Reminds me of some exchanges I have had over the years with the bleary eyed supporters of some of our political prophets like Messrs. Preston Manning and Gordon Campbell:

Ed: "Do you think young people should be drafted into the armed forces to fight and die on the orders of some politicians, even if they don't support , or even understand their causes?"

According to a study released by Merrill Lynch and Gemini consulting in May the world's six million millionaires saw their wealth grow by 12% last year and are predicted to be 50% richer within five years. Their financial successes continued in 1998 despite the economic problems in Asia and Russia. 58% of the world's millionaires live in the US and Western Europe.

Good conservative: "Yesssssssir!. It is good for them ! Every young person should be taught good discipline and if necessary to die for their country!"

Ed: "Don't you think that the least thing we should expect of some of these foreign companies to pay taxes and accept some of the responsibilities for the damage they are causing? After all, the first thing they usually do is to start firing people so they can pocket and take their earnings out of the country."

Good conservative: "No way! Those corporations come here with their capital to develop this country and create wealth where none existed before. If we forced them to pay taxes they'll just take their money elsewhere and we won't have nothing!"

Ed: "You say that our young people are supposed to go and die to defend the country from foreign takeover, so that foreign corporations can come and take it over and the survivors won't even get a few lousy jobs out of it?"

Good conservative: "What are you? Some kind of a Commie? Why don't you go back to Russia if you don't like it here? How do you expect those corporations to reward their shareholders for trusting us if we demand taxes from them? What we should do is to get rid of them union bosses who always want more money so the companies can go and become more competitive globally. "

By changing a few words I can almost hear the preachings and double-talk of the nazi and communist prophets of my youth.
