New brakes all around, fresh synthetic oil, TOYO Proxes TPT 225-50R17 unidirectional rubber.

Alas, it's time to part ways with my much loved Maxima. I am the original owner since new.

There were three trim levels for this model year, the "basic" GXE, the more decked out GLE, and the sport version SE (mine) that featured 6 speed manual, locking differential, sport tuned suspension, 2 way power moonroof, rear spoiler with LED 3rd brake light, foglights, Titanium colored gauges and more.

The 2002 (along with the 2003) has been considered by many as the best production series of the Maxima (don't take my word for it, you can Google it). The new 2009 Maximas don't even have manual transmissions as an option anymore, offering only the CVT auto, giving you that "slipping clutch" or "rubber band" feel.

This 6 speed manual transmission model has HLSD (Helical [cut gear] Limited Slip Differential) as opposed to the speed reactive Viscous LSD. The HLSD is torque reactive and therefore reacts quicker and more positively than a VSLD.

Why should you care? Well it virtually eliminates torque steer, which is very important when you are pushing through 255HP to the front wheels on a FWD car. It also improves traction on slippery surfaces by locking the axle should one side slip. With an HLSD, it's possible to leave tire marks on the dry side of the pavement even when the other side is on ice. Most FWD cars don't even have this as an option, giving you only an open differential.

The interior features leather seating and leather wrapped heated steering wheel.

Heated Steering wheel & memory seats:

One of my favourite features is the heated leather steering wheel. (right button) You appreciate it when you have to start up on a cold dark winter at -20 C. I don't know why every car sold in Canada doesn't have this. The left button is for memory seats, which I don't use since I'm the only driver of the car.

Heated driver and passenger seats:

Of course since leather seats can be chilly, your tush and that of your front passenger should be comfy with these high and low settings for heated seats.

The driver's seat is 8 way power adjustable with manual lumbar support, the passenger is 4 way power adjustable.

The side airbags are embedded in the seat backs and are one of four in the car.
Rear seats have L.A.T.C.H. anchors for child seats.
The HID (Xenon) headlights can be set to auto or manually.

The simple and clean Titanium gauges are easy to read during the day and reverse to light on dark at night. On the right side is the LCD trip computer which is currently indicating the outside temperature.

It can estimate distance to empty, average fuel consumption, time on the road, and average speed since the last time it was set, which is handy if you want to gauge how you're doing on a long road trip.

Dual auto up and down switches provide quick venting and closing.

You can even open the front windows remotely using the key fob to vent before you reach the car.

It's quite likely that you can do this from your office window since the range of the remote is outstanding.

The reverse gear is protected by engaging a shift collar that has to be lifted.

The head unit features a cassette, AM/FM tuner with rear window glass imprinted dual diversity antennas and 6 disc in dash CD changer. It can be controlled via the steering wheels controls.

The climate control offers the perfect temperature on the auto setting.

Everything is at your fingertips.

And finally the 3.5l 255HP VQ35 engine. Quoting Ward's Automotive:

"Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. makes the Ward's 10 Best Engines list with the 14th consecutive win for its hallmark VQ-Series DOHC V-6, the only engine to win an award every year since the competition's inception in 1995."
